Helen Root – NCDW District Convention Summer 2019
Helen Root is a third-year student in the Medical/Clinical Psychology PhD Program at the University of Alabama at Birmingham. She is a Leadership Education in Neurodevelopmental and Related Disabilities (LEND) trainee at the Civitan-Sparks Clinics where she conducts psychological and autism-specific assessments with children and adolescents who are at risk for neurodevelopmental disabilities. Helen received her bachelor’s degree in Psychology and Neuroscience at the University of Massachusetts Amherst. Helen’s research interests revolve around examining the behavioral phenotype and developmental characteristics of neurodevelopmental disabilities, particularly autism spectrum disorder. She has recently received a Civitan International Research Center Emerging Scholars Award for her dissertation project which will examine the presence and phenotype of autism spectrum disorder within a rare genetic syndrome, Pitt Hopkins Syndrome.
On Saturday, August 3, 2019, Helen spoke at the North Carolina District West District Convention and gave updates on her research.
